Research studies in the field of eating disorders are monumental for propelling and advancing treatment methods for eating disorders. With a better understanding of eating disorders that comes with research studies, treatment approaches are made even more effective for the individual who may be suffering with an eating disorder.

Research studies often investigate various groups and individual who have had an eating disorder and compare them with control groups, or people who have not had an eating disorder. This allows researchers to make comparisons in their investigations.

Because many research studies examine behaviors, biology, therapies, etc. on actual individuals with the disease, having participants in research studies is a crucial component and necessary for a successful outcome. Researchers often need volunteers who have had an eating disorder as well as individuals who have never had an eating disorder.

Where to Start Your Research as a Volunteer

If you interested in volunteering for a research study, start by checking out local universities and treatment centers in the city in which you live. Many universities will post current studies as well as research needs on the school website.

This might outline needs, criteria, and details about the study as well as a contact for further questions about participating. You might also consider checking out websites of various organizations within the eating disorder community for ways to become involved as a volunteer for a research study.

This includes Eating Disorder Hope, the Academy for Eating Disorders, and the National Eating Disorder Association.
