Making a Real-Life Difference
At Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center, we designed every aspect of the care we provide to reflect the ways adolescent girls and women respond to treatment. Our campus, which is located on 43 forested acres outside of Chicago, is a haven where women feel safe, welcome, and supported.
We provide residential services in lodges, which allows our residents to receive care alongside others in the same age group. This unique format helps our residents feel less isolated, build healthy friendships, and develop a support network of their peers.

Every woman’s experiences with an eating disorder are uniquely her own, which is why we work closely with each client to understand how we can best help her meet her personal recovery goals. Our hope is to make a real-life difference for our clients by empowering them to commit to change and growth.
Timberline Knolls is a place of transformation where women and adolescent girls can find true and lasting recovery. By using a trauma-informed approach to eating disorder treatment, we provide holistic care that promotes healing of the whole person — mind, body, and spirit.
Experiencing a traumatic event or having a history of trauma can contribute to the development of an eating disorder and other behavioral health concerns. The trauma-informed approach we integrate into each client’s care gets to the root of any experiences that may be keeping her from achieving recovery.
Our compassionate team of experts understands the complexity of trauma and how these experiences can affect a person’s response to therapy. We use evidence-based interventions to help women identify the cause of the distressing emotions and behaviors they have been struggling with.
Every woman’s treatment varies depending on her individual needs and goals. Based on the information gathered during her assessment, her treatment plan may include:
- Individual therapy
- Family therapy
- Multiple types of group therapy
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
- Motivational interviewing
- Art therapy
- Sound Healing
- Recreational therapy
- Meal support
- Basic medical care
- Therapeutic outings
- Medication management services
- Ambulatory, nonmedical detox
The women and adolescent girls who come to Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center have lives and needs outside of the behavioral health concerns they are facing. We recognize that no diagnosis defines a person, and we honor every woman we treat as a whole person who deserves to pursue her own happiness.
The specialty services we offer help our clients maintain crucial aspects of their lives while they participate in treatment. These include:
- The Grace Program – This optional program allows women and girls to integrate principles of the Christian faith into their recovery.
- TK Academy – Adolescent girls can continue making progress in school through our on-site educational support services.

While working with the experts at Timberline Knolls, clients can gain the confidence to take ownership of their recovery. With the support and encouragement of their care team, our clients build a foundation for long-term healing.
Our commitment to a client’s recovery extends well beyond her time at our treatment center. Before every client transitions out of our care, we ensure that she has the resources she needs to continue the progress she has made with us.
At Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center, we work extensively with each client before discharge to develop a continuing care plan, which we tailor to her individual circumstances. This may include a referral to another level of care and recommendations for support groups and other community resources.
Our alumnae coordinator also introduces all clients to the benefits available to them through our alumnae program and services. This program provides our clients with a valuable support network they can turn to for years to come.
