Woman using smartphone while sitting on bench.EDH: Welcome to today’s #EDHchat! Today we will be learning more about the Organization MentorConnect

EDH: We would like to start by welcoming our special guest Kim Hershenson, who is tweeting as @kimberlykorn

EDH: @Kimberlykorn is in recovery herself and is the Community Board Chair for MentorConnect

EDH: Please tell us a little bit about yourself and your current role with MentorConnect

Kim: I currently serve as MentorConnect’s Executive Board Chair.

Kim: After practicing intellectual property law for a number of years, I decided to switch careers.

Kim: I am now an eating disorder and addiction therapist.

Kim: I am also recovered from anorexia.

EDH: Can you please tell us about MentorCONNECT?

Kim: Mentor Connect is the first global eating disorders mentoring community.

Kim: Individuals in need of guidance through eating disorder recovery are matched with mentors.

Kim: These mentors have knowledge and experience with living life free from an eating disorder.

Kim: There is also the opportunity for online group support.

EDH: When should a person suffering from an eating disorder contact MentorConnect?

Kim: Anytime.

Kim: Whether they are struggling or stable.

Kim: As long as the individual is open to guidance.

EDH: How are mentors assigned?

Kim: Mentees fill out a form and can be matched with someone of similar age and who has struggled with the same eating disorder

EDH: How can someone in strong recovery become a mentor?

Kim: If they are 18 or older with a minimum of 12 consecutive months in sustained recovery, they can fill out an application

Kim: Sustained recovery is defined as “largely free from eating disordered thoughts and behaviors”

EDH: What encouragement do you have to offer to the individual struggling with an eating disorder today?

Kim: Full recovery is possible.

Kim: It takes time and listening to professionals who have the knowledge to help you recover

EDH: Thank you to everyone who participated in our Twitter chat today!  And thank you for the great insight and info about MentorConnect @Kimberlykorn
