Join Jennifer Berry, MA, LPC-S, National Director of Family & Alumni Programs, for a webinar on “Seasonal Effects of Diet Culture: Managing the Spring Season for Clients with Eating Disorders.” The webinar begins Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 9:00 AM PT/ 11:00 AM CT/ 12:00 PM ET. We are offering 1 CE hour through APA, CDR, and NBCC for live attendance.

Abstract:
This webinar will offer insight for clinicians to help clients challenge the invasion of illogical diet culture standards and adopt a compassionate stance for themselves and their bodies during the spring season. While the definition of a diet culture is broad, the pervasive societal beliefs around achieving the “ideal body” underpin the idea that a human has moral superiority when obtaining this false conformity. Our culture’s discriminating and intrusive standards pose an invasive threat to those who view themselves as unable to meet or maintain these guidelines, especially for those with eating disorders or in recovery. The foundational ideas of the diet culture, especially during the holiday season, have changed names, marketing strategies, and schemes over time, but the reality remains the same – if humans cannot meet these illogical standards, then shame, guilt, low self-worth, and body loathing can infiltrate their belief systems.

Objectives:
– Investigate the interplay of diet culture and the spring season and explore the impact on the diversity of clients with eating disorders.
– Identify internal dialogue and external responses to diet culture during the spring that interfere with our clients navigating through the season.
– Develop strategies to support your client through spring, including embracing a compassionate stance for themselves, exploring their internal interchange, and understanding external focuses that impact treatment and recovery.
