April 17 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am PDT

Join Madalyn Leatherman, MS, LMFT, for a webinar on “Eating Disorders and the Family System: Relapse Prevention.” The webinar begins Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 9:00 AM PT/ 11:00 AM CT/ 12:00 PM ET. We are offering 1 CE hour through APA, CDR, and NBCC for live attendance.

Abstract:
This presentation will explore ways in which eating disorders impact family systems and typical expectations of ways in which families may present to therapy when experiencing the impact of a loved one’s eating disorder. Myths around eating disorder relapse prevention will be explored, and we’ll identify ways for individuals to assess the impact of their loved one’s eating disorder on their family system. Action oriented behaviors for family members will be reviewed in order to increase autonomy and feelings of competency within the family system.

Objectives:
– Identify ways in which eating disorders impact family systems and specific presentations that may arise in family members in order to build confidence in tailoring systemic interventions.
– Describe what the process of assisting a loved one in preventing relapse from an eating disorder looks like for the individual family system.
– Identify examples of circular questioning to increase insight into ways in which individuals can set boundaries and reduce emotional reactivity within the family system when an eating disorder is present.
