Back to School Bootcamp: How to Effectively Support Clients and Families During the School Transition

Abstract:
Transitions can be difficult for clients working towards eating disorder recovery. The back-to-school transition is often one of the harder ones – leaving the freedom of summer and shifting back in to busy schedules. This presentation aims to arm participants with practical strategies to support clients as they navigate this transition. We will touch on triggers and provide solution-focused tools to keep clients recovery-oriented and motivated.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify school specific triggers and barriers to recovery to watch out for.
- Participants will learn specific interventions and strategies to support clients as they transition back to school and practice integrating recovery in to their school schedule.
- Participants will gather ideas about how to utilize school resources to support a client’s recovery.
