Even with a number of Oregon eating disorder centers to choose from, it's not always possible for residents to attend these in-person programs. Some individuals may live too far away, have transportation or mobility issues, or have complicated schedules or commitments that make leaving home difficult.
In these cases, virtual eating disorder treatment programs can offer a great alternative. Despite being relatively new, this method has already been thoroughly tested and found to be just as effective as in-person care in many cases.2
Still, virtual eating disorder programs may not be for everyone, particularly patients with severe eating disorder symptoms. It's important to be fully screened by a program before enrolling.
Other Oregon Eating Disorder Resources
Oregon has a few options for help other than the state's top eating disorder centers. Certain residents will qualify for the state's Medicaid Behavioral Health Services. This program may offer individualized or group therapy sessions, as well as help with medication and other medical treatment, and referrals to other specialized treatment interventions.
All Oregon residents will also be able to access help from the state's Department of Health. While more generalized, this program can still extend help with behavioral and mental health initiatives, including referrals to doctors or outside programs, help with coordinating care, and additional resources and educational materials.
Finding the Top Oregon Eating Disorder Centers for You
Having options can be a blessing and a curse. Choosing the most effective Oregon eating disorder center for you or your loved one may feel like an overwhelming task, on top of dealing with symptoms.
To help streamline the process, you may want to ask or consider some of these questions:3
- Does the center have insurance coverage access for your healthcare provider or plan?
- What measurable benchmarks does the center use to determine eating disorder recovery?
- Does the program offer specialized treatment interventions in case of emergencies?
- Are friends or family involved in the recovery process?
Ideally, the program you choose will have the level of care you or your loved one requires—whether residential eating disorder treatment, partial hospitalization programs, or intensive outpatient programs. But regardless, the center you choose should offer comprehensive and compassionate care.
It may be a long road to eliminate eating disorders and their insidious effects, but with the right kind of care and support, recovery is possible, one step at a time.
