While specialized care is essential for eating disorder recovery, it doesn't have to happen in person.
Virtual eating disorder treatment has become an increasingly popular method for addressing these issues, with good reason. The method has several advantages, including expanding care to underserved areas or patients with mobility or transportation challenges. It can also help alleviate anxiety around in-person visits and make scheduling more convenient.
Best of all, virtual eating disorder treatment has been found to be just as effective as in-person care for alleviating eating disorder symptoms in many cases.2
Additional Idaho Eating Disorder Resources
Care for an eating disorder in Idaho doesn't have to start inside a treatment center. The state offers several programs that can also help you or your loved one find the necessary treatment.
The Idaho Department of Health can offer:
- General support with eating disorder treatment, including referrals to residential treatment programs, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, or other types of care
- Help coordinating care
- More information and support
Some residents will also qualify for the Idaho Medicaid Behavioral Health Services. This program can offer more direct assistance, including therapy appointments and medical consultations. Referrals to other types of evidence-based therapies, such as nutritional counseling, may also be available. The program frequently helps with other mental health conditions that may be related to eating disorders, such as substance use.
Finding the Top Idaho Eating Disorder Centers for You
It can be difficult to determine which Idaho eating disorder center is the best for you or your loved one, especially if you're already dealing with stressful eating disorder symptoms. Asking some of these questions may help you narrow down your choices:3
- How long has the center been treating eating disorders? What credentials do the doctors and other staff have?
- What type of benchmarks does the center use to determine progress toward recovery?
- Does the center have any overarching philosophy regarding treatment or recovery?Does it adhere to any spiritual or religious practices?
- Are family or friends allowed to participate in the recovery program?
- Will the center work with employers or schools to help ensure access to treatment?
- Does the program fall under your health insurance coverage?
Navigating eating disorder recovery can be a difficult journey, but with the right type of support, it's always possible.
