New Dawn Treatment Centers

In 2005, New Dawn Treatment Centers established the first multidisciplinary and comprehensive Intensive Outpatient eating disorders treatment program in Marin County for adults and adolescents. Under the leadership and clinical excellence of our experienced staff of Registered Dieticians, Licensed Psychologists, Psychotherapists and Nurses, hundreds of patients have been successfully treated.
At each level of care, New Dawn utilizes a multidisciplinary approach with individualized treatment plans that address the medical, psychological, nutritional, and interpersonal needs of each patient. Our non-dieting approach to overcoming eating disorders emphasizes the value of understanding the underlying issues at the root of the disease.
We understand that different levels of structure and support are necessary on the road to healing. This is why we offer programs that address each level of need, from the 24-hour medically supervised care found in our Residential Program, to the less intensive structure of our six day per week Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) with affordable housing available, to our least restrictive Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).
Our Nutrition Philosophy
Learning to make peace with food is extremely challenging for those with eating disorders. In order for emotional and psychological recovery to be successful, the body and mind must be properly nourished. Using a non-dieting, holistic approach based on intuitive eating, we help restore safe eating behaviors that ensure the proper normalization of body weight. Fresh organic ingredients are used in an eight week rotating menu cycle designed by our Registered Dietitians and prepared by our in-house chef to guarantee an eating experience that is both healthy and stimulating. Mindfulness techniques help clients make the mind/body connection and promote a healthy relationship with food. Cooking classes are a program favorite, as they teach the clients how to make their favorite recipes at home.
PHP & IOP programs offered in Sausalito, CA and in Roseville, CA

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
IOP clients participate in an intensive treatment program for three hours a day, up to six days per week. The program is designed for those who require more structure and support then a typical outpatient program, or for individuals who may be transitioning from our PHP or Residential Treatment Programs. IOP offers all of the same therapies as PHP, including Body Image, Yoga, Mindfulness, Dance therapy, Acupuncture, DBT and CBT, Equine-Assisted Therapy, Meditation, Expressive Arts, and Family and Relationships therapy. The nutrition program requires one snack and one meal per day, created by our in-house chef in collaboration with our Nutritionists and Dietitians. IOP participants also receive weekly individual psychotherapy and nutritional counseling sessions.
IOP provides comprehensive treatment while allowing the client to retain autonomy in their normal day-to-day activities. Average length of stay for IOP participants varies based on individual treatment needs but is typically between 3 – 5 months.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
For those requiring a high level of intensity, but not the 24-hour care provided by Residential, PHP offers seven hours of treatment per day, up to six days per week. PHP can prevent hospitalization for some individuals by providing daily, intensive medical monitoring and support in a structured, therapeutic setting, and it is also an important step-down intervention following residential or acute inpatient treatment.
Length of time involved in PHP varies based on individual treatment needs but is typically 5 – 7 months.
Housing for PHP clients in San Francisco

Clients in our PHP program are also offered affordable housing at our fully furnished San Francisco house (see above), our Sausalito house, and at our Roseville luxury apartment. All of our PHP houses are located within a short five minute walk to their respective outpatient program, and are all conveniently located within walking distance to shops, grocery stores, coffee houses, and public transportation.
Residential Treatment in San Francisco

Located in San Francisco, we welcome adult women from all over the world to participate in our residential eating disorders treatment program. Unlike the vast majority of residential facilities in the United States, New Dawn Eating Disorders Recovery Center offers the full continuum of care necessary to complete the recovery process. This means that you are guaranteed to receive the same quality of care, and consistent and thoughtful treatment planning as you graduate from residential treatment and transition into partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient program, and outpatient services. We understand that recovery from an eating disorder takes time and that a constant shifting in providers can obstruct and prevent a more profound kind of healing. At New Dawn, we make it possible to accompany you on the full journey of recovery.
During your residential stay, medical monitoring, psychiatric oversight, and individual/family/group psychotherapy will be provided by our team of psychologists and psychotherapists, and nutritional therapy and support will be provided by our dietician team. Our nurse practitioner and crew of residential counseling staff are available around the clock to ensure an atmosphere of safety and nurturance.
An Environment of Healing

Our intimate 6-bed home in San Francisco is comfortably furnished both indoors and outdoors. The fact that our home is located in the heart of Pacific Heights, a charming San Francisco neighborhood, fits with our philosophy that recovery need not occur in isolation or away from the "real world". We want our residents to feel prepared to return to their lives following treatment, so we provide a plethora of opportunities to interact with "real world" situations by way of community outings, mindfulness walks, equine-assisted therapy, and outside support group participation.
Our Treatment Philosophy
New Dawn Treatment Centers understands that a patient’s best chance at achieving recovery and wellness occurs when the treatment experience is collaborative and client-focused. We also believe that a combination of therapy modalities each contribute to give our patients relief from their struggles, and the strength and tools to begin their new path towards recovery.
These therapy components include Body Image movement, Body and Soul groups, Yoga and daily Mindfulness walks to restore a positive relationship with the body, evidence-based therapies such as Dialectical Behavior and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, family and relationship counseling, as well as more Holistic treatment modalities such as Meditation, Equine-Assisted therapy, Expressive Arts, Acupuncture and Creative Writing exercises. We also offer Relapse Prevention and Lifetime Continuing Care for all of our graduates so that support is always available.

Sometimes clients are referred to a psychiatrist when psychotropic medication appears indicated.
Our Intake Specialist will discuss all relevant fees and ancillary charges with you prior to admission, so that you are completely aware of your potential financial obligation. As part of this process, our staff will verify your insurance eligibility and benefit coverage if you choose to use insurance.
