SUMMARY:Renfrew Center Professional Seminar - The False Self: The Complexity of Body Image and Identity Issues in the Treatment of Eating Disorders
DESCRIPTION:Details: Professional Seminar Presented by Adrienne Ressler\, LMSW\, CEDS\, F.iaedp – Vice President\, Professional Development\, The Renfrew Center Foundation – Clinical Training Specialist\, The Renfrew Center \nBody image is perhaps the least understood and most complex of the core issues associated with eating disorder treatment. As an integral part of the life cycle\, body image development shifts and adapts as we age and engage in life experiences. It is ironic that although our clients are focused on and obsessed with their bodies\, they remain virtually disconnected from the experience of living in their bodies. \nThis seminar will address the intricate interplay between brain\, body\, and beliefs (why we believe what we believe). Repetition of messages and experiences become internalized and influence\, not only self-perception and self-talk but the body itself. Negative reinforcement often becomes imprinted in the client’s body-mind\, feels “true” and serves as the client’s identity. \nAttendees will learn body-focused\, bottom-up strategies designed to help clients reclaim their authentic self. Lecture\, demonstration/experiential exercises and video clips will be utilized\, and attendees will be provided with a resource packet. \nLocation: The Capital Hotel\, Little Rock\, AR\nTime:  7:30 AM – 12:30 PM CST\nAdditional Information: Offering 4 CE Credits Learn More. SUMMARY:Renfrew Center Professional Seminar - Invisible Women: Eating Disorders\, Perfectionism and Body Image at Midlife and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:Details: Professional Seminar Presented by Margo Maine\, Ph.D.\, FAED\, CEDS – Advisory Committee Member\, The Renfrew Center Clinical Excellence Board & Member\, The Renfrew Center Foundation’s Conference Committee \nFrom early childhood until their dying days\, contemporary women experience relentless pressure to be perfect and the body is the canvas upon which these pressures play out. Increasingly global concerns are built on the evidence that eating disorders now appear in diverse cultures\, social spheres\, and developmental stages. \nHistorically\, body satisfaction increased with age but\, today\, 75% of midlife women express significant body distress and weight preoccupation. As many as 15% suffer from eating disorders\, exceeding the number suffering from breast cancer. Although under-diagnosed and under-served\, more and more adult women are now seeking treatment for eating disorders. \nIn this seminar\, attendees will examine incidence patterns of eating disorders and body image despair currently seen in adult women. We will address the unique clinical issues and approaches\, as well as the critical roles of psychoeducation and a feminist perspective to inform and empower midlife and older women in fulfilling their complex needs and move them toward recovery. Ample time for discussion will be provided. \nLocation: The Capital Hotel\, Pittsburgh\, PA\nTime:  7:30 AM – 12:30 PM EST\nAdditional Information: Offering 4 CE Credits Learn More. (Prof) \n

DESCRIPTION:Details: Professional Seminar Presented by Kelly L. Klump\, Ph.D. – Advisory Committee Member\, The Renfrew Center Clinical Excellence Board & MSU Foundation Endowed Professor\, Department of Psychology\, Michigan State University \nEating disorders exhibit significant heritability in adult women. The implications of these data for clinical practice will be emphasized\, and tips for integrating the information into clinical practice will be described. \nLocation: The Renfrew Center of Atlanta\, Building Conference Room\, Atlanta\, GA\nTime:  7:30 AM – 12:30 PM CST\nAdditional Information: Offering 4 CE Credits Learn More. SUMMARY:The 29th Annual Renfrew Center Foundation Conference for Professionals – Feminist Relational Perspectives and Beyond: Discerning Truth
DESCRIPTION:November 8-10: Details: FEATURED KEYNOTE SPEAKER: LISA LING\, journalist\, author\, and television host. As we continue to address the challenges we face as a professional community\, we recognize the importance of discerning truth in our current climate of “fake news”\, unsubstantiated claims and slanted rhetoric. These forces have contributed to rising levels of distrust and vulnerability among our clients with eating disorders. Conference 2019 will examine the ways in which we can help clients develop skills to enhance critical thinking\, emotional regulation\, and relational connection. At the same time\, it is incumbent upon us to explore our own biases and capacity for taking others’ perspectives\, utilizing empirically-based\, justice informed science and research. Discerning Truth will focus on cognitive and psychological flexibility\, neuroscience and the developing brain\, compassion\, and the healing qualities of the therapeutic relationship. 18 CEs available. Registration opens June 4\, 2019. Location: Philadelphia Airport Marriott\, Philadelphia\, PA Time: 9 AM – 5 PM ET. Additional Information: Learn More. (Pub) \n
