Join Eating Recovery Center and Insight Behavioral Health for the Love Your Tree Compassion Series – Tools for Incorporating Self-Compassion into Your Clinical Practice.
In the treatment of eating disorders, trauma, and mood & anxiety disorders, the practice of expressive art therapies offers patients an opportunity to connect with mindfulness and self-compassion in a way that fosters higher levels of self-acceptance and non-judgmental awareness. Through guided practices of expressive arts prompts, patients connect freely with their inner world and emotions in a way that creates safety, encourages empowerment, and facilitates self-compassion and healing.
Topics will include a discussion of the relationship between art therapy and a mindful approach to self-compassion based on a model called ONEBird (Wiliams, 2016) and building on the psychological research pioneered by Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer. This practice of Mindful Self-Compassion and compassion-focused therapy with art therapy is an emerging approach that provides patients with the chance to engage in the creative process in a way that supports integration and regulation of emotion. In addition, information will be presented on the effectiveness of healing trauma through guided sensory motor bilateral mapping (Elbrecht, 2018) and visual art journaling.
