PHP Includes:

  • Multiple daily psychotherapy groups
  • A weekly treatment team meeting
  • Therapeutic meals and snacks
  • Medical monitoring of weight and vital signs
  • Family involvement, education, and support
  • Two meals and two snacks with one or two additional groups daily (10-hour program)
  • One meal and two snacks (six-hour program)

Adolescent Program

McCallum Kansas City Dining RoomMeal therapy: Teens and parents learn techniques for refeeding and introduction of foods that have been omitted, with the purpose of reducing rituals and increasing flexibility around meals. Dietitians meet regularly with families and the adolescent to provide individualized support that is focused on specific challenges.

Group therapies: Teens learn skills to help manage emotions and address typical adolescent concerns, including peer relationships, school, and the transition to increasing independence.

Adult Programming

Treatment focuses on age-appropriate concerns, placing an emphasis on mobilizing resources, with the goal of building skills to eat independently while feeling supported by others. Adults will have separated community spaces and special groups.

McCallum Place Kansas City Eating Disorder Treatment Services

Medical

Our primary concern is the medical stability of our patients. Under attentive and supportive medical supervision, our patients regain medical stability so that they can focus on achieving overall health in mind, body, and spirit. Medical staff includes board-certified psychiatrists, a certified nurse practitioner, and registered nurses.

Clinical

We treat patients and their families with an open heart, respect their potential, and recognize their struggles. We offer a variety of eating disorder therapies, including individual psychotherapy and core group therapies. We focus treatment on values, facing fears, and developing skills and confidence in relationships and emotion regulation.

Our therapists employ mindfulness-based and evidence-based psychotherapies such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), family-based therapy, and prolonged exposure. Groups, including art therapy, family dynamics, movement and dance, fitness and yoga, and psychodrama, are designed to restore a healthy balance of body, mind, and spirit.

Nutrition

We prepare delicious meals and snacks with local and organic ingredients when available. Our registered dietitians provide nutrition support through individual sessions, groups, cooking classes, self-portioning, and during restaurant outings.
