Want to know more about Canopy Cove? Below you’ll find the answers to 10 frequently asked questions.
Do you treat people who have a dual-diagnosis (i.e. Eating Disorder and a second diagnosis such as depression, anxiety)
Yes. It is our experience that a high number of people who receive treatment for an eating disorder also are dealing with a second diagnosis such as Depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Self-harm, or Anxiety.
Because these conditions can impact the recovery process, Canopy Cove Treatment Center prioritizes early identification of co-occurring disorders; We simultaneously treat dual diagnosis to provide the most effective treatment. We also offer a fully developed treatment track for Diabulimia also known as an Eating disorder with co-existing Diabetes.
Do you address Family Issues?
Yes. We know that the individual who comes to Canopy Cove is not the only one affected by the disorder. Very often other family members have been impacted. This is why our treatment is comprehensive and includes family education and weekly family therapy.
Our family therapists interact with the clients as well as family members, facilitating an understanding of eating disorders and focusing on topics such as communication, conflict resolution, anger management, and restoring broken relationships. Out of town family members may participate via tele-conference calls.
Can you tell me about the treatment philosophy at Canopy Cove?
Our program is based on The Recovery Model which states that full recovery from an Eating Disorder is possible. The Recovery Model identifies the eating disorder as a symptom of deeper, unresolved issues. We assist clients in identifying and resolving the underlying core causes of the eating disorder as well as developing a more balanced relationship with food.
Once a person learns how to effectively confront these issues and the emotions they produce, the eating pattern and relationship with food stabilizes. Consequently, a person can “recover” from an eating disorder, rather than remaining in the perpetual process of “recovering.” The true heart of the Recovery Model is more than behavioral change; it encompasses personal growth and development of life management skills.
Do you provide a Customized Treatment Plan or does everyone receive the same treatment?
Each person we treat is unique and receives a customized treatment plan tailored to their specific needs. As part of the admission process, each client has a detailed evaluation by members of our multi-disciplinary eating disorder treatment team including:
- Primary Therapist (PHD)
- Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Psychiatrist (MD)
- Internal Medicine Physician (MD)
- Registered Dietician (RD)
- Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS)
The assessments from each team member are reviewed with our entire clinical staff and used in developing a customized treatment plan. This close collaboration among the medical, clinical and support staff has proven highly effective in providing the most effective treatment.
Does Canopy Cove feel more like a hospital or more like a home?
