Rachel Porter - HeadshotRachel Porter, Psy.D., is an eating disorders professional living and working in Durham, NC. Dr. Porter has worked in the eating disorders field for 13 years, all at higher levels of care.

Dr. Porter is currently the primary therapist at Carolina House’s gender-inclusive residence as well as the Clinical Care Advocate for Carolina House. Dr. Porter is an anti-stigma advocate, a Health at Every Size provider, and committed to using her many privileges to support and provide compassionate and inclusive care.

In her personal time, Dr. Porter enjoys spending time with her husband and cats, reading, and trying to see Hamilton: An American Musical as many times as humanly possible.

Brian Cook, Ph.D. ImageBrian Cook, Ph.D. is Vice President of Movement, Research, & Outcomes at Alsana. He is a sought-after expert presenting his research at international conferences, chairing conference paper sessions focused on eating disorders and associated psychiatric illnesses, publishing his work in leading journals, and authoring several invited book chapters.

As the Vice President of Movement, Research, & Outcomes at Alsana, Brian works closely with Nicole Siegfried and Tammy Beasley to focus on developing the movement program. This innovative approach changes the functional relationship of exercise from a compensatory behavior to one that functions equally with other components of complete health.

Brian received his education at the University of Rhode Island, University of Florida, and the Neuropsychiatric Research Institute in Fargo, ND. His education has allowed him to train under leading experts in the eating disorder field.

These accomplishments in Brian’s career are evidence of his passion for improving the lives of individuals with eating disorders and his potential to continue to impact the field. Brian is currently an assistant professor at California State at Monterey Bay.

Compromising The Athlete Identity: Why Eating Problems Can Begin or Worsen During Periods of Transition

Dr. Melissa Streno Image on Weekly HopeMelissa Streno, PsyD, CMPC is the Primary Therapist at EDCare Denver. She graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a BA in Psychology. After gaining experience at Children’s Hospital Colorado working with eating disorders, as well as emotional and behavioral disorders, she attended the University of Denver and earned her Masters in Sport and Performance Psychology. Combining her own experiences as a competitive athlete and a strong desire to help those struggling with their own mental health, specifically eating disorders, she pursued her PsyD at the University of Denver.

As part of her role as a Primary Therapist at EDCare, Dr. Streno also maintains the Athlete track. She places great importance on relationship building, an individual’s previous experiences, strengths, and self-awareness. Dr. Streno believes the therapeutic relationship provides an ideal setting to show compassion, practice effective communication, acceptance, accountability, and values-guided action necessary to work towards a meaningful and fulfilling life separate from an individual’s eating disorder.

Katherine Godwin, M.D. is the Medical Director and Attending Physician at Laureate Eating Disorders Program. She has served as medical director and attending physician of the Laureate adult eating disorders program since 2010.

She joined the program as medical director of outpatient services in 2008 and was the medical director of Laureate’s independent living program for outpatient eating disorder care, Magnolia House, from 2007-2010. She has practiced at Laureate since 2005.

Dr. Godwin is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology She received her medical degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, and completed her residency in psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego where she served as chief resident.

Katherine Godwin, M.D., shares her expertise locally and nationally about psychopharmacologic considerations with eating disorders. Dr. Godwin is an advocate for patients and their families. She encourages her patients to participate actively in treatment and to work together with their care team for optimal symptom management.

Norman Kim Image Norman Kim, Ph.D. – National Director at Reasons Eating Disorder Center – completed his B.A. at Yale University where he studied music and psychology and was the recipient of a Mellon Fellowship for Research in Psychiatry. He completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at UCLA, where he was the recipient of an individual National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Health to study the neurobiologic underpinnings of emotion recognition and understanding in Autism.

Most recently he has been involved in a multi-site, longitudinal study of children and adolescents at risk for developing bipolar disorder. In conjunction with his research, Norman has developed an expertise in treating and teaching about psychiatrically complex populations, multi-modal treatment, and diagnostic assessment.

While rooted firmly in empirically supported approaches, he has incorporated practices emphasizing somatosensory integration and that draw from eastern and traditional medicine with our current knowledge of the neurobiologic and cognitive processes underlying anxiety, mood, trauma, and eating disorders. He has endeavored to develop a clinical approach that focuses on the exploration of meaning as a path to healing and that honors an individuals’ own narrative and journey.

Norman is a frequent, national speaker and educator, and is a passionate advocate for eating disorder awareness and translating research into clinical practice. He is on the Board of Directors of the Eating Disorders Coalition, the Eating Disorder Advisory Council for the Joint Commission, and the Clinical Advisory Board for Tikvah V’Chizuk.

Emmy Johnson ImageEmmy Johnson, MSW, LCSWA, (they/them) is a white, nonbinary, queer therapist specializing in eating disorders.

They work from an anti-racist, Health At Every Size, trauma-informed, anti-oppression framework, and strive to be open, understanding, and welcoming to all. In their free time, you can find them hiking with their dog and reading Harry Potter for the twenty-somethingth time.

Holiday Coping Strategies for Those in Recovery and Their Loved Ones

Camille Williams ImageCamille Williams, MA, NCC, LCPC, Eating Disorder Program Coordinator at Timberline Knolls, supports the development of the curriculum, supervises the eating disorder specialist, and provides group therapy.

She also educates and trains all staff on campus and advocates for eating disorder awareness through publications. Camille started at Timberline Knolls as a Behavioral Health Specialist.

She then transitioned into the Eating Disorder Specialist (EDS) role. In this position for nearly five years, she developed her skills and competence in working with the eating disorder population.

Camille received a Bachelor of Arts degree in both psychology and sociology from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. She then went on to earn a Master of Arts in Clinical Professional Psychology from Roosevelt University, IL. Camille is a member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP).
