While conferences may create added expenses compared to other training resources, they can be an invaluable investment, especially for an individual who is hoping to further develop their skill set as an eating disorder clinician.
Eating disorder conferences are conducted around the globe to accommodate the widespread locations of practicing professionals. Attending an international conference can also create opportunities for connecting with colleagues involved in the eating disorder community abroad, strengthening the bond of professionals around the world.
Likewise, if you are an eating disorder professional outside the United States, becoming involved with your state and/or country conferences can be a tremendous way to strengthen the resolve of your eating disorder community.
International Eating Disorder Conferences
Here is a brief overview of some of the international eating disorder conferences, supporting the professional, the eating disorder sufferer and their loved ones.
International Conference for Eating Disorders (ICED): This conference is conducted by the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED), which gathers hundreds of eating disorder professionals from around the world to review the latest advances in eating disorder advocacy, research, and treatment. The ICED conference is held in a new location each year, with the 2017 ICED conference scheduled to be in Prague, Czech Republic . Also available before the actual conference is a clinical teaching and research training day for professionals who choose this option.
The keynote speaker for this year’s conference is Vikram Patel, Ph.D., who will be sharing his expertise on psychological treatments for the World Lessons from global mental health for eating disorders. The ICED conference also offers workshops, panel discussions, and more in a unique training opportunity for professional participants . The title for this year’s ICED conference, “Diverse Perspectives, Shared Goals,” highlights this annual conference as one of the most premier events for the professional eating disorder community.
London Eating Disorders Conference: The Institute of Education in London offers an annual three-day conference and exhibition to bring together participants from all over the world to discuss the key topical issues in the field of eating disorders. Open to all medical and health care professionals who are interested in the assessment and treatment of individuals with eating disorders, this conference provides an opportunity for participants to develop practical skills and techniques in practice.
Eating Disorder Research Society: The XXIIIrd Annual Meeting of the Eating Disorders Research Society will take place at the University of Leipzip – Campus Augustusplatz, in Leipzig, Germany on September 14 – 16, 2017. This conference will feature a variety of speaking engagements on the latest research with eating disorders, including treatment and evidenced-based approaches.
Eating Disorders International Conference: This conference is hosted by the UK’s leading eating disorder charity, Beat, and offers a prestigious program put together by experts in the eating disorder field. This conference is purposed for anyone working in the field of eating disorders who desires to collaborate and further develop their working knowledge while learning more about the latest developments in the field . The next Eating Disorder International Conference is scheduled to be held in 2018.
Australia and New Zealand Academy For Eating Disorders (ANZAED): Held in various locations in both Australia and New Zealand, the ANZAED Annual Conferences provide workshops on a variety of topics, providing opportunity for clinicians, researchers and students to get together and share knowledge on the current understand of eating disorders . The 15th Annual Conference will be held in Sydney, Australia on September 4 – 6.
