Anxiety Disorders
There is Hope and Long Term Relief for Anxiety Disorders
Everyone knows what it feels like to be anxious or nervous. Typically, a person will get "butterflies" before having to take an exam, or even feel a little lightheaded before a wedding or speaking engagement. Anxiety such as this is completely normal; in fact, just like a police officer, anxiety is there to protect and serve. If threatened or placed in danger, it helps us cope; if called upon to remain focused, it keeps us alert for a prolonged period of time.
However, when anxiety ramps up to the point where an individual is irrationally afraid of everyday situations and can no longer function normally, this person is now in the grip of an anxiety disorder.
Today, millions of children and adult struggle with anxiety disorders. These include Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), generalized anxiety, panic disorder, agoraphobia, separation anxiety and social phobias. Although these may manifest at different times, or be provoked by myriad situations, anxiety disorders can be summed up in one word: fear. A child refuses to leave her parents, certain they will be hurt or die; an adolescent can no longer attend school, knowing everyone hates her; a woman is consistently late to work, needing to repeatedly check the lock on the front door. The child is afraid of loss; the teenager is afraid of rejection; the adult is afraid of an unwanted intruder. Fear IS the great motivator.
Here is what doesn't help: telling the person there is nothing to be afraid of; making the person "suck it up" and do it anyway; belittling the person for their fear. Here is what does often help: therapy with a mental health specialist trained to treat anxiety disorders.
Remember...An anxiety disorder, which ever form it takes, ends up crippling the person who has it. Living with constant dread is not the life God intended for you. Please get professional help. Discover more about this important topic by checking out the following articles.

Anxiety Disorders in Children

The human body is an amazing machine, providing exactly what you need at the very moment that you need it. When you exercise, your body produces sweat to cool itself off. When you need energy, you feel hungry, leading you to eat and supply the needed energy. Likewise, anxiety is a normal aspect of the human condition; it is a reaction to stress. It helps you cope with tense situations or remain focused for long periods of time. It also alerts you to danger in the environment. But when anxiety becomes an extreme irrational dread of everyday situations and begins to interfere significantly with normal functioning, it is no longer assistive and adaptive, but has become a debilitating disorder....
