Eating Disorder Center of Denver
Eating Disorder Center of Denver is one of the nation's foremost centers for the diagnosis and treatment of the full range of eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating and diabulimia. Based on an individual's particular clinical needs, we offer a variety of treatment options, including a partial hospitalization program, intensive outpatient programs, nutritional counseling, outpatient therapy and an evening treatment program.
The experienced and dedicated team of psychiatrists, therapists, physicians and registered dietitians use their expertise to collaborate on the best method of treatment for each individual. We bring together industry experts through our Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) to ensure we continue to treat eating disorders with the most effective and current methods possible.
Eating disorders are often associated with other conditions, such as depression, anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder, which is why we specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with a dual diagnosis. All treatment plans are personalized to ensure recovery for each patient. We follow the bio-psycho-social-spiritual model of therapy and incorporate our unique approach, which we call CAMSA™, that focuses on connecting with each individual patient on a personal level. We know that eating disorders touch your very core, so we work to heal you as a whole person.
At Eating Disorder Center of Denver, we believe everyone deserves a healthy life. For that reason, we're committed to providing the most cost effective treatment possible. We accept insurance and can arrange sliding fee payments based on financial necessity.
We recognize that recovering from an eating disorder can be a long and often challenging process. Our staff is committed to providing the life skills that will last long after leaving our center, enabling your recovery to last a lifetime.
OUR UNIQUE TREATMENT APPROACH
At Eating Disorder Center of Denver, we go beyond simply treating the symptoms of an eating disorder. Our integrated approach for diagnosing and treating eating disorders follows the evidence-based biological-psychological-social-spiritual model focusing on healing the whole person. We strive to identify the factors that drive each individual's eating disorder, introducing positive behavioral changes and incorporating those changes into everyday life. We also stress individual empowerment as well as increased personal awareness and wellbeing. Our patients learn to bring about their own changes and celebrate individual successes.
We compliment the bio-psycho-social-spiritual model with our own unique approach we call CAMSA™. CAMSA™ stands for Connection, Acceptance, Mindfulness, Sense of Self and Action. This mindfulness-based treatment model guides individuals through recovery and beyond.
Our treatment programs support healthy transition and change. Our patients increase their personal awareness, wellbeing and health, and leave with a "toolkit" full of knowledge and skills to sustain long-term recovery.
OUR TREATMENT OPTIONS
Eating disorders are unique to each person. We have treatment options that are unique as well.
The scope of care for eating disorder patients depends on the individual and their severity level. At Eating Disorder Center of Denver, we have five levels of treatment that serve most eating disorder patients:
- Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) – Our highest level of care for patients diagnosed with an acute eating disorder. This highly structured program includes therapy and therapeutic activities 10 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) – A step down from PHP. Patients transition to some eating on their own and some time away from the center. This program is approximately four hours each day.
- BRIDGE Evening Intensive Outpatient Program (BRIDGE EIOP) – For patients who require more than outpatient therapy to treat their eating disorder. This program is considered a "transitional" level and includes therapy four evenings per week (includes meals) for 10 weeks.
- Outpatient Service/Aftercare and Support Groups – Offers a more personal connection than a support group can provide. Therapists, registered dietitians and psychiatrists provide the necessary support to maintain health and recovery.

PRESS RELEASE
Eating Disorder Center of Denver Introduces
New Treatment Program for Binge Eaters
DENVER—(December 17, 2010)–The Eating Disorder Center of Denver (EDCD) has added a 10-week treatment program for patients with binge eating disorder to its comprehensive scope of care. The program opened to patients on January 24.
Binge eating disorder is characterized by recurrent episodes of binge eating and a sense of loss of control over eating. Someone who suffers from binge eating disorder generally eats an unusually large amount of food at one time, much more quickly during binge episodes and until physically uncomfortable.
The Eating Disorder Center of Denver created their program in response to the increased prevalence of binge eating disorder in the United States. In fact, approximately 4 million people are reported to have binge eating disorder in the U.S. alone.
The new 10-week treatment at EDCD involves a combination of partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment.
"We have seen many patients with binge eating in the past and decided to add a program to our repertoire in order to better treat these individuals," said J. Verne Singleton, chief executive officer of EDCD. "We strive to do whatever we can to help our patients recover from eating disorders and this new treatment program expands our ability to do so."
The binge eating program at the Eating Disorder Center of Denver adds to the centers current treatment options, including partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs, outpatient therapy and an evening intensive outpatient treatment program.
